Content intelligence using eCairn and Zapier

We just released our integration with Zapier and we are happy to share with you awesome new capabilities for Content Marketing, Content Intelligence and CRM enrichment.

(Since we are in alpha, you need to get an invitation from us to be able to use this feature: invitation )

First thing first, What is Zapier?

Zapier is a really easy way to integrate software without writing any code. Using Zapier, you can swiftly connect your eCairn application with 1000’s of other applications without hiring a developer.

This opens new use cases such as, automatically

  • Building a webpage, newsletter, community page, collecting the best articles from and for your target audience.

  • Collecting social media insights about/from your leads and automatically posting them in your CRM (Salesforce, Zoho, Pipedrive…)

  • Identifying influencers among your clients and prospects

We will be describing these opportunities in a series of blog posts. Below you can find the first of many:

Use Case #1 :

Collecting top articles from & for your target audience and publishing them in a newsletter, website, blog etc…

In the following example, we will:

  • Use an eCairn project that is based upon a list of thousands of “female-run VC firms” from the San Francisco Bay Area

Connect eCairn and Feedly to build a website/board collecting the most interesting articles for this community. Feedly is a news aggregator application for various web browsers and mobile devices running on iOS and Android.
The objective is to automatically build a board/website with the articles this audience shares most frequently on Twitter:

Prerequisite

  • On the eCairn’s side, you need to have a user license with at least one project

Note there is a new section for Zapier with an API key. This will be used to authenticate your eCairn account in Zapier.

  • On the Feedly side, you need to have an account with a board already defined

You can use any platform from the Zapier ecosystem that accepts URLs (WordPress, Squarespace, Tumblr, Hubspot….)

Finally, you need an account on Zapier to create & run the Zap on an ongoing basis.

As we are in alpha, you will also need us to send you an invitation in order to use eCairn in Zapier. Please use this link to request an invitation

How do you do it?

1- In Zapier, please select the “Top Articles” trigger in the list of capabilities provided by eCairn

This trigger will be executed once per day to collect the articles shared the most by your target community (in our case this was: female-run VC firms in the SF Bay Area).

2- Authenticate

You’ll then need to authenticate your account by pasting in the API key from your project settings (or use an already configured account for the integration):

3) Configure the Trigger

This trigger has three options:

  • Topic: This field is optional. You can restrict the scope of the articles that you collect using a topic. This topic must be created directly in your project on eCairn prior to being used by Zapier. Zapier will collect configured topics and list them in the dropdown.  In our example, we reduced the scope and eliminated articles shared in political tweets. Our goal was to collect business articles that female-run VC firms share.

  • Period:  Weekly or Monthly. This field is mandatory. The analysis will run daily on a rolling period that can be a week or a month.

  • Count: This field is not mandatory. When this is set to a specific number, articles will only be collected that have been shared more than that amount & within the selected time period. We recommend setting it to 3 and then adjusting this based on performance.

Once you have configured the trigger, you can continue to the next step and test your trigger.

When you click on the ‘Test trigger’ button, you will have an example of what is returned by the API.

You then have to configure Feedly to present the results:

  1. Choose an application (in our example case this was Feedly but there are hundreds of applications you can use)

2.Authenticate in Feedly (or on any similar platform)

3. Setup the action and test

And lastly...don’t forget to turn the Zap on :)

Results:

Here are the results: a webpage/board that is automatically refreshed once per day with the articles that female-run VC firms share the most.

Voila.

This website will be refreshed daily with the best articles sourced and shared by female-run VC firms.

Note that you can use the same process and build boards collecting the content shared by:

  • Your clients

  • Your prospects

  • Members of a private community (think MightyNetworks)

  • Your employees

We will share more about how you can use Zapier to build these lists in the eCairn application in our next blog post.
