Mapping developers communities with Github profiles

eCairn has recently supported several B2B software companies, helping them map and listen to developer communities on social media.

Our experience includes:

  • Data Science communities

  • No-Code communities

  • Front End developer communities

  • Cybersecurity communities

  • Developer communities around specific products.

Our clients are mining these communities for various purposes, the main ones being:

  • Identifying people to invite to their “owned” communities

  • Identifying content partners or micro-influencers

  • Curating/Crowdsourcing content from a community of developers

  • Understanding what is trending in the community to drive the content marketing agenda.

Here is a sample of the Data Science developer community that we have mapped:

When you are working with developers, it is quite interesting to have access to their Github profiles. (https://docs.github.com/en/account-and-profile/setting-up-and-managing-your-github-profile/customizing-your-profile/about-your-profile) In our last release we have added the detection/search of Github profiles.

The Github profile provides information about the contribution, the type of languages and environment the developer is familiar with. It also provides access to the person’s email. One thing that you cannot get is the Twitter or Linkedin profiles.
